Well, we have officially retired from the DOC band helmet! We made it. Some of you might be saying..."I never even saw London wearing it"--but I promise she did. She actually almost wore it for a year! She had to get a second helmet several months ago because the first one just didn't do the job. Her ears took forever to shift and get in the right position and even though they aren't perfect even now, it's 100% better than it was. I can remember finding out that she had to get the helmet and I was horrified. Here I was, a first time mom with a little girl that I can dress up and put pretty bows in her hair--then finding out her head would be covered by a helmet--I was so disappointed!! I was afraid people would look at her and pity her (I didn't want that) and wonder what had happened. We did get strange looks and people did ask what happened but once I saw the amazing progress she made in the first several weeks....well, the "looks" just didn't matter. My child's head was getting fixed! She wore the first helmet religiously. She made great progress. Then we found out she had to get a second one. I was disappointed but I knew that we would do it and do it now as opposed to her having a flat head and her ears not being straight all her life. I could just hear her say- "Mom! My head is weird and I can't even wear a pony tail!" So, the second one she wore a lot too then about a couple of weeks ago, I just got tired of it and was happy with the results. Her head really rounded out and her ears look great! She did so good and I can't believe she had to wear it for so long. So, today J and I took a final visit to the doctor and the helmets are gone! I can't believe how much they helped and would do it over again in a heart beat! Yeah for the DOC band!
Driving to our last appointment!

Seriously, I didn't even know! London is so blessed to have such caring and loving parents that will do whatever it takes to create a wonderful life for her!!! Praise God for using that helmet to make London even more beautiful :o)
London I'm so proud of you for being such a big girl for so long and wearing your helmet! You are and will always be so beautiful inside and out...look out bows, here comes Miss London!!
Congratulations on the graduation! Cute diploma too! I actually thought she looked kinda cute in her little helmet. :-)
Yeah!! We get ours off on Thursday next week! I can't wait. Anytime anyone sees Deron without his helmet they say, "Oh, he is so cute - well, not that he's not cute with the helmet, but you know what I mean." I am so ready to be able to run my fingers through his beautiful hair! I am so happy for you guys and London looks fabulous!
