London was watching Sid the Science Kid (I love this science educational program on PBS!) the other day, and the kids were doing dirt experiments. So, I got some ideas from several different sources, and for the past couple of days, we have been dirt detectives! First, we went outside to discuss dirt. We dug in the dirt, looked for worms, and talked about why dirt is important. We talked about how trees, grass, flowers, and plants all need dirt.
Next, we came inside to make dirt cups! They were so easy and very good!
The next day we went on a nature scavenger hunt. We continued to talk about dirt and all the different things we can find in nature. We collected all the items and headed home to make our collage!
Then for our bed time reading, we read The Giving Tree and Nature's Animals.
We had a really fun time being dirt detectives! She really enjoyed all the activities! Of course, Lily was there every step of the way! She loved being a little dirt detective, too!! :)

I Love LOVE StheSKid! He inspired us to start our leaf collection so we head out on nice weather days to collect leaves.
The funny thing is if you ask Pierce who Sid is...he says, "Pierce." Moppy hair, goofy face....I can see it. :)
How fun! What a fun way to learn...London's a lucky girl!
looks like fun! Nice weather too, wish we could go outside :(
Sid is a big hit in our home too! Love it!
SO fun!!! We may have to borrow some 'dirt' ideas in the future if you don't mind :o)
What a great little lesson! I find it funny that you are teaching your little girl to get herself into the dirt. LOL! Somehow that just comes so naturally to boys...
