On the flight to Chicago, we got to sit in first class. It was the fanciest first class I've ever been in! (It pays off to have a husband who travels!!) We had our very own TV, an ottoman, free drinks, a good lunch, and so much space! J and I were sitting by each other, but had to stretch out an arm to touch each other! It was crazy!
We arrived in Chicago and were greeted by a limo!! (Once again, when you have a hubby who travels as much as mine, you can splurge in other areas!) The limo was nice but traffic was a nightmare. Dallas traffic doesn't even compare. It was only about 17 miles from the airport to our hotel but it took us 2 hours!!! But I can't complain-- we were comfortable! :)
We stayed at the Drake hotel. The hotel was very old and had a lot of history. Friday night we went out with some of J's friends from the Chicago GT office. They took us to a delicious steak restaurant. We stayed out late and didn't have to worry about rushing home to the kiddos. So great!
We woke up late on Saturday (WOW! Forgot what that was like!), got ready, and headed to the church for the wedding. It was at a beautiful Catholic church. The ceremony was very nice. The bride, Julie, looked beautiful and happy!
J and I then headed over to eat some Chicago-style pizza. I ate the best pizza ever. Almost makes me want to pick up and move there just for that pizza!! We then spent the afternoon walking around and taking in all the sites. Our hotel overlooked Lake Michigan. We walked by the lake (even though it looks more like an ocean!) and it was gorgeous.
Then we did a little shopping. I found an American Doll store. OH MY! I could have spent all day there! It's a girl's heaven! All those dolls, clothes, and accessories were unbelievable. I ended up getting London a baby American Girl doll. She has brown pig tails, dark eyes, and looks just like London. Then of course, I had to buy matching outfits. That store was evil.
Then that evening we headed over the the wedding reception. J and I had a wonderful time. We had a delicious dinner, good conversation, and we even danced! That was a hoot! :)
We had a lot of fun visiting Chicago. It is a beautiful city. I could totally live there but the weather is just so cold! (It was about 60 degrees on Saturday and very windy. We were walking by some condominiums and on the roof we could see people laying out! So strange to see the different life-styles!) I missed my girls and realized that I can only be away for 2 nights. That's as long as I can go. I know my girls were in good hands though! But to see their smiling faces was the best!!
Lily, Miss Dolly (that is what she named her new doll), and Lily with her Cubs hat!

How fun! The 5 page manual cracks me up... reminds me of getting ready for a sub!
You know there is an AG store down at the Galleria here in Dallas. I hear it's pretty crazy. (Although you might not want to know that you have one so close now...)
So fun! I've never been to Chicago but I would love love love to go see Oprah and shop and eat pizza. What a luxurious trip- So happy it looked like such a good get away for you two!
Looks like so much fun!!! How great that you guys got to have a long weekend just the two of you!!
Weren't you amazed getting ready to go that you only had to think about yourself and what you needed? I had a moment in Vegas while in the hotel room packing a bag for the pool where I was astounded by my freedom and how easy it was to just be taking care of myself! Boy, the things I took for granted!
Yay! Glad you had a good time and Jeff took you up here in style! ( Oh, I saw in People or US Weekly that one of the The Bachelorettes got married in Chicago that Friday and stayed in the Drake too!) The AG shop is so addictive! I love the picture you have posted in the matching outfits! It was great meeting you and hope to see you and Jeff again soon!
