Never thought I would see the day

When I was in the 6th grade, I had a science teacher who had birds in her classroom. We got to take turns feeding the birds, giving them water, cleaning their cages, and holding them! I LOVED it. I would come home from school everyday and tell my parents that I wanted a bird. So, when I turned 12, I got my birthday wish...my very own pet bird. I was thrilled! He was so little. He barely had any feathers and we actually had to feed him with a syringe! He's a cockatiel. He is mostly gray and white with the a yellow head and orange cheeks. He loves it when we pet him. He's actually had two names. I originally named him "Peaches" because of his orange cheeks, but when Jeff met him, he refused to call him that, so to be mean he named him "Kitty." It stuck and that's his name now. (poor thing) Anyway, I loved taking care of my bird when I was little. He can say, "Here kitty, kitty," "hello," "he's a pretty bird", and he used to be able to sing the Andy Griffith song, but I haven't heard him do that in a long time. I can remember him sitting on my shoulder when I would do homework in my room, or walk around my bed while I was gossiping on the phone with my friends. He's been through so much with me---school, friends, boyfriends, tears, fights with my parents, fights with Michelle, braces, perms, and the list goes on! When I went away to college, my grandparents volunteered to take care of him for me. When I graduated and moved to Texas, I got him back and he's been with me ever since. He's about 19 years old now and still kicking. I never would have imagined that my child would ever meet him, but I never thought I would see the day that my SECOND child would meet him! Now, that is CRAZY!! London helps me clean his cage, gives him fresh food, and she takes his cover off of his cage every morning. Recently, Lily has shown an interest in him. She wants to get close to him and tries to pull up on his cage while I'm cleaning it. I was watching her watch him and it just blew me away that Kitty is still around! I just love that crazy old bird! :)

wow--that's one impressive bird! I was given a bird once as a birthday gift from my cousins. They thought it was a hilarious idea... especially since I had a terrible fear of them. I gave it back to them for Christmas. I applaud you for having one in your house!! I had no idea about Kitty!

I wouldn't have pegged you for a crazy bird lady. Just kidding, my in laws have an african parrot and they say because he will live so long we'll have to take care of him when they go...room for another?

No, Bortzfield is right, you secretly are a crazy bird lady (which I guess makes me the crazy cat lady) anyway, I hope Kitty is nicer to my nieces than he was to me....you forgot to mention how EVIL he can be to your poor sister!
