Just call me The Bird Lady!

The other day we were outside playing and I noticed this gorgous red Cardinal bird flying around our little tree. He was squawking at us and flying from the tree to the fence frantically. I ventured over to see what he was doing and came across these three tiny, hairless, baby birds. They really aren't even that cute because they have no hair and look a little alienish right now. London and Lily love to look at them though. The mother and father both seem to take care of them. I see them taking turns bringing in food and checking on them. It's so sweet. I think it's funny that of all the trees around us, they pick our tiny oak tree. We live by a golf course/walking trail and there are a ton of huge trees all around us. But for some reason, they picked our tree in our backyard. I feel honored. I'm going to watch them grow and take some pictures along the way. Yes, I think I'm The Bird Lady!

Meet our newest babies!

My flash popped open on this picture, waking up one of the babies. He immediately opened his little mouth excpecting some food.

And here is the daddy. I do think it's sweet that he is helping the mother bird. He's actually more around than she is. Maybe he's a stay at home dad??

Can you see him?

That's so cool!

I've really enjoyed watching the little hummingbird that has made a nest on our patio. Her babies hatched just yesterday! I guess hummingbirds are different, though, in that the mommy does all the work. It's been fascinating to watch!

this may seem dumb but how do you tell a daddy from a mommy? I didn't get the birds and the bees talk...

lol-Carol! You can always tell the male because they are prettier. The females aren't as bright and pretty. The males usually stand out more! Strange huh?
