Our little trooper

I feel like the worst mom ever. I can hardly talk about this without getting choked up and crying. My poor sweet Lily fell off the couch yesterday. I turned around for a second and she was on the floor. She just rolled herself right off. She fell face down. I picked her up and we both started crying. I fed her, rocked her, walked around with her, but nothing really seemed to soothe her. She cried and cried. I called the pediatrician and they basically told me to watch her. If she vomited or continued to be irritable, then I should head to the ER. It was nap time, so I put her to bed and after a little crying, she fell asleep. She slept for about 20 minutes then woke up crying-- hard. I knew it was time. So, I dropped off London at Auntie's and headed to the ER. We went to the new Richardson facility (it was GREAT!). After lots of examining and some X-rays, I found out she had a hairline fracture. She broke the little bone right above her knee. They put her leg in a splint and sent us home. They wanted me to see the orthopedic surgeon the next day. Meanwhile, J was on a plane headed to Houston. As soon as I found out her leg was broken, I called him and he got off the plane--just in time! He met up with us, and I am thankful he was there!
Last night was terrible. She would sleep for about an hour, then cry and cry and cry. I gave her as much medicine as I could without sending her into a coma. The only thing that seemed to work was her falling asleep on me. So, needless to say, I'm running on low. We woke up this morning and headed to the orthopedic surgeon. They checked her again and put her leg in a little cast. It's hot pink! It is secretly cute, but I just feel terrible for her! As soon as they put that cast on, she became a different baby. She stopped crying, calmed down, and even flashed us some of her sweet smiles. We are home now, and trying to adjust. She will probably have to wear it 4-6 weeks. I am worried about her falling behind in the crawling department, but there is not much I can do at this point. The cast is actually water proof! So, we won't have to skip a beat when we take a bath! I am proud of her for getting through the night, and now trying to deal with this cast. Hopefully the next 4 to 6 weeks will go by fast!!
Here are some pics of our little trooper!!

Awwww. God bless, these things happen, you shouldn't be so hard on yourself. Afton pulled the fireplace cover on his head this morning. They're stinkers! I'm glad to hear everything is under control now so everyone can get caught up on sleep! xxxx

When I saw Jeff's comment on FB, I was just mortified. Mandi, I'm so sorry!!! Our trip to the ER a few weeks ago was absolutely devastating, so we know this is hard for you two. Your little girl IS a trooper, but only because you and Jeff are. I'm praying for your peace. YOU ARE A WONDERFUL MOTHER!!! Do not let this steal your spirit. Maybe a surprise to you, but not to God, k???

So sorry for you, I'm free all day tomorrow if you need any help, I'd be glad to come by or bring you anything. Hang in there, I know she will be fine but you need to take it easy on yourself too. PS the cast is adorable! I hope London doesn't want one too~

Waterproof?! That's the way to do it. I read once about a baby who wedged her leg in between the crib slats and broke her leg. These things happen! At least Lily is darn cute in that thing!!

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this! I can understand the emotional rollercoaster you are on, but like everyone has expressed... Don't worry! These things do happen and will happen, again. Maybe not with a break, but cuts, bruises, sprains... hey, kids will be kids! We are praying for you and sweet Lily!

Please don't be upset with yourself...I know, easy for all of us to say. :(

My sister broke her arm at 9 months old. We think it happened by my brother or I jumping on a mini-tramp while she was trying to hold onto it. My mom felt awful - and said that while the cast was on that she always felt like people were looking at her badly. She laughs now looking back on it and how she always tried to run errands with all three of us, as if to show people that she did indeed have two children without casts/bruises/injuries.

We'll be praying Lily heals quickly and stays her self happy in the meantime! Don't you dare beat yourself up anymore!
