I tried the sock bun the other night and I was surprised at how well it took to my hair. I have very thin hair. The sock bun worked great and my curls stayed in all day.
The other night we celebrated J's birthday with some sweet friends! Poor J. His birthday is the day after Lily's so it gets easily forgotten. He wanted to go out to dinner and he made me make all the plans. I hate doing that. I hate making decisions on where to eat. But I did some research, asked around, and we ate at a trendy, up-beat restaurant in uptown Dallas. Sambuca's was super fun!
And that night we had a great baby-sitter! J and I live in a large neighborhood. We recently found out that our neighborhood has a baby-sitters club. A mom has organized the club. It started out with her daughter and her daughter's friends but has grown over the last 3 years. There are currently over 200 hundred family's that use this service and about 20 sitters. The sitters have on-line profiles so you can check them out and they are each required to take a baby-sitting class and a CPR class. The mom who runs the club came over to our house, met us, and made sure we were "okay." Then she sent us the sweetest sitter. It's a professional, organized, great club! So, J and I got to have fun and not worry about our girls! When we got home, I got a very organized, full report.
They played, ate pizza, watched a movie, painted their nails, and were sound alseep. Perfect.
Last Thursday was Meet the Teacher at London's school. It's so nice going back this year and seeing familiar faces. It's also nice that she knows where everything is and she's not nervous like she was last year. She has a great teacher this year. She's funny, organized, still loves to teach, and was super excited to see London come walking in the door. We looked around the classroom, put away her school supplies, and got to see her locker!
We got ready for the first day of school on Sunday night. We picked out her outfit, had hot dogs for dinner, made her lunch, and got to bed early. I begged her to let me put curlers in her hair. She refused. I stooped to bribery. I told her I would pay her $2. She said, "No, I'll do it for $3."
Right before bed, we read a sweet first grade poem. It was about getting a good night's rest and getting ready for a great first day. We sprinkled the "fairy dust" under her pillow so she would get some good sleep. In the poem, it said her teacher was doing the same thing. She thought that was sooo cool.
I was worried she would take forever to fall asleep. To our suprise, she fell asleep instantly. I think I need a gallon of that "dust."
London woke up at 6:15am and came running down the stairs--literally. She had waffles and OJ for breakfast. We got her all dolled up and headed out the door at 7:05am.
We got in the car and headed down the road to school. It was crazy busy. We parked about 2 blocks away.
She led us right to her classroom. I just about lost it when we had to pass the Kindergarten hallway. It felt just like yesterday we were going down there. She went to her locker, dropped off her backpack, hugged her sweet teacher, and then this is how I left her.
When I picked her up, she was non-stop talking. Very different from last year. She told me they went to PE, had outside recess (I was surprised considering all the West Nile around here!!), had a good lunch, made a new friend who is really tall, and worked on two projects. She had a snack, a little rest time, and then we headed back out the door to her jazz/hip hop class. It was the first day.
She did pretty good. I'm a little worried though. It's very different from her ballet class from last year. This year it's about rhythm. I'm hoping she learns some. But she had a little girl in her class from last year and a friend from school so she was excited.
That sums up our busy day. The rest of the week has been going really good. Granted, she's not running down the stairs anymore in the morning but I am very thankful. We have a great school and her teacher is fabulous. She sent us the sweetest email after the first day of school. It said that she has a great class, they had a great day, and she feels honored to teach our precious gifts everyday.
I feel very blessed.
